Description
Advanced Practice Physiotherapy (APP) roles are increasingly recognized as a key solution to improving access, quality, and efficiency in musculoskeletal (MSK) care across Canada. With growing interest in APP-led MSK models and evolving educational pathways, there is a need to integrate emerging Canadian evidence with global research to guide implementation and training. This session brings together clinical insights, research findings, and national developments to explore the current state and future direction of APP in Canada.
Objectives
1. Describe the current landscape of Advanced Practice Physiotherapy (APP) roles in Canada and internationally.
2. Present current Canadian evidence on patient and clinician perspectives of APP-led MSK care.
3. Explain the range of post-registration educational pathways and the evidence supporting their capacity to develop APP competencies in physiotherapists (PTs)
4. Identify next steps for implementing APP models within Canadian MSK practice settings.
5. Reflect on how PTs can prepare for and advocate for APP roles within their own clinical environments.
