Overview:
Research over the last decade has demonstrated that pelvic floor problems and low back pain are highly co-morbid.
Research does not support causality in either direction. This suggests that orthopaedic clinicians who treat low back pain and hip pain need to understand the role that pelvic floor health plays in the majority of women with lumbo-pelvic pain.
Historically, pelvic health training has only become the focus of therapists who integrate internal palpation into their skillset.
This resource package is designed to support both pelvic health clinicians and MSK clinicians in addressing tension in the pelvic floor as well as sensory motor dysregulation of the lumbar spine and pelvis. These are the two biggest drivers of changes observed in low back pain when connected with pelvic floor dysregulation.
There are also tools in this resource package that will teach patients how to "take their pelvic floor muscles" to the gym when appropriate. Strength in the context of flexibility and letting go will be emphasized.
Last, but not least, there are functional integration programs in the form of HIIT training workouts in this resource package which incorporates functional movements with pelvic floor cues to build endurance and coordination in the core and pelvic floor.
