Overview
To help therapists better understand the upper extremity and how issues with the entire upper extremity show up in the hand and wrist. The goal is to teach how to effectively assess and quickly create change within a single treatment session.
This online course will do a deep dive into the upper limb tension tests and how to tweak each of them to precisely determine points of impingement in the upper extremity. This course will have multiple case studies, including a complex upper cases study, to show how you can make a precise problem list and diagnosis.
Learning Objectives
In this online course, you will learn:
- A new framework of how to effectively assess, and systematically treat the upper extremity
- To understand the interaction between the anterior and posterior arm
- How to create balance and reduce upper extremity and hand pain quickly and effectively
- To create root cause changes in the upper extremity
- How to effectively treat imbalances within the upper extremity such as lateral epicondylitis, de quervain’s and carpal tunnel syndrome
Audience
This online course is for any healthcare practitioner that treats the upper extremity; neck to hand. It will look at the upper extremity from a non-traditional but very effective lens. I hope to change how you view and treat all patients with an upper extremity injury/problem.

MSc PT, BSc Kin, Registered Physiotherapist, Diploma of General Studies in Social Work
Hello,
I am Inderjeet Takhar (Indy). I graduated from McMaster University as a Physiotherapist in 2012 and have since opened my own successful multidisciplinary practice; PhysioIT. With over 10 years experience specializing in Hand Therapy and the Upper Extremity, and 55 additional courses completed since graduation, I truly believe the more you learn the more we can help. My goal is to bridge a gap in the Physiotherapy profession: understanding hands and the beautiful intricacy of how it affects the upper extremity. I love the upper extremity and am excited to help my fellow colleagues learn about this fascinating and highly rewarding field.
I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and a Diploma in General Studies of Social Work from Renison University. I am a passionate, holistic Physiotherapist that believes that education can change this world! I believe that it is essential to consider all three parts of a patient: mental, emotional and physical health. When combining all three and continuously assessing and reassessing a patient, amazing results occur.
To empower each other and raise our global consciousness we will make this world a better place.

Will this only look at hand conditions/ injuries?
No, this course will look at a number of different injuries of the upper extremity and how they affect/present in the hand. It will provide a new framework of dealing with the upper extremity and helping you to create manageable problem lists.
How do you look differently at the upper extremity?
I will look at the upper extremity from a root cause perspective. Sure de quervain's is in the thumb but is it really?? Or is it because it is the end on the fascial line/ where the radial nerve ends? unless you address issues along the entire chain, you will not make true, long lasting change. I will be looking at the neck down to the hand and showing the intricacy of how, a subtle change in the upper extremity makes massive changes through out the limb.
Will we be doing a custom brace?
No, as I will not be able to help you to fabricate a splint, I feel it is unfair to teach this in this course. In the future I hope to create a splinting course where all aspects of custom bracing will be discussed.
Is a certificate of completion included with this course?
Once you have completed the course, a certificate of completion (including learning hours and course information) will be generated. You can download this certificate at any time. To learn more about course certificates on Embodia please visit this guide.
